Talks on civil service pay begin with the Cabinet Office

A PCS delegation met with the Cabinet Office on Friday (19) for the first time since the Labour government was elected.

A PCS delegation, including our national president Martin Cavanagh, met with the Cabinet Office on Friday (19) for the first time since the Labour government was elected on 4 July.

The meeting was the first of three scheduled meetings to discuss the 2024-25 pay remit guidance.

At the meeting, PCS expressed the “absolute urgency” in wanting and demanding a fresh approach to pay compared to the previous administration, after members have experienced over a decade of pay oppression. We highlighted the chronic low pay suffered by tens of thousands of our members and the need for all PCS members to have a sharp increase in living standards.

While PCS is prepared to have a pragmatic approach with the Cabinet Office around longer-term issues such as pay structure, we have made absolutely clear that we need more money on the table this year to bring members up to a decent level of living and provide a proper pay rise.

PCS is determined to deliver the pay that members deserve and need.

Following Fran Heathcote’s letter to the new prime minister, Keir Starmer, PCS hopes to have a meeting with him soon to create a detailed roadmap to address many of our other concerns covered by the national campaign.
