PCS responds to Labour election win
Reacting to today’s landslide election victory for the Labour party, PCS calls on the new government to value its own workers and end endemic low pay, privatisation and attacks on our pensions.
During the general election campaign PCS, which represents 190,000 civil and public servants across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, published its key demands for a future government in the PCS Charter, including pay rises, more jobs and a commitment to hybrid working.
PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote said: "Today we finally say good riddance to 14 years of abhorrent, right-wing Tory rule. PCS is proud to have fought them every step of the way. The Labour government must now act in the interest of the workers that voted so overwhelmingly for change.
"PCS members are the government's own workforce and they will be watching the Labour leadership, their appointments and their decisions very closely. We demand a government that values its own workforce after years of Tory neglect and destruction.
"We call on Keir Starmer to get around the table and work with us to put an end to endemic low pay, job insecurity, privatisation and Tory attacks on civil service pensions. The Labour Party was established by and for workers, who they need real and positive change for themselves, their families and communities through improved public services, not more of the same in a different shade."
