PCS President welcomes delegates to historic devolved conference

PCS President Fran Heathcote welcomed delegates to the inaugural and historic PCS Wales Devolved Policy Making Conference in Cardiff today.

Fran, who chaired the conference, told delegates that she was delighted to lead the union into this “historic, new democratic era”.

"I'm so proud to lead this union into a new democratic era in which policies arising from the decisions made by the devolved nations will be delivered by members in those nations,” she said.

“This is an historic event in the history of PCS. Not only is it the first Welsh conference, but also the first of devolved nations, with the second to follow in Scotland next week,” she said.

“We will be remember this day in the history of PCS,” she said.

She said we are working in Northern Ireland to “build similar structures there.”

She paid tribute to former PCS Welsh secretary, Shavanah Taj, now general secretary of the Wales TUC, who was instrumental in helping to establish the Welsh conference.
