Join the COP28 Global Day of Action for Climate Justice

The Climate Justice Coalition is organising events across the UK on Saturday 9 December.

The Climate Justice Coalition of which PCS is part, is organising events across the UK on Saturday 9 December as part of the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice.

At the mid-point of COP28, the global climate talks taking place in Dubai, there is more talk about how to keep ‘business as usual’ and defending corporate profits rather than the Just Transition and phasing out of fossil fuels that is urgently needed.

2023 has seen climate records shattered. It is the hottest on record, greenhouse gas emissions and sea levels continue to rise, and the Antarctic Sea ice is at a record low. Despite this, the climate talks overseen by COP President Sultan Al Jaber, the head of the UAE oil company, reportedly looking to use the talks to strike oil and gas deals, has seen a record number of fossil fuel lobbyists in attendance.

The flying visit in high-emitting private jets by prime minister Rishi Sunak and foreign secretary David Cameron, was used to reiterate their rolling back on climate policy. Measures to tackle climate change such as a transition to renewable energy and energy efficiency would address the cost-of-living, energy, and public health crises. Failure to act is what we cannot afford.
