It’s HeartUnions week

HeartUnions week is the perfect time to build solidarity, grow the union and celebrate successes.

HeartUnions week has officially started, with various PCS branch events planned. Over the coming week we’ll be looking at how to make recruitment an easier affair, turning colleagues into fellow campaigners. There’ll be stories of a brand new branch, surging young member activity and a rep coming to the rescue, going above and beyond. We’ll also look at some bonus benefits of PCS membership and at the union’s impact in wider society, beyond the workplace.

PCS is a strong union and employers know this. Our campaign, including all out and targeted strike action, forced the UK government to increase its pay remit last year, with similar wins in Scotland and Wales. More recently, strike action has won an increased pay offer at Fujitsu and the threat of strike action led to talks and successful negotiations at DVSA. Our pensions case against the government will be heard in the Court of Appeal on 20 February and we are to launch a judicial review to challenge the anti-union Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023.

In our workplaces we have a network of trained reps who can provide help and support with workplace issues and also wider issues that have an impact in the workplace, such as mental health or domestic violence. HeartUnions week is a time to celebrate the contribution made by our reps who volunteer their own time to help others.

So, get involved in HeartUnions week and celebrate the role that trade unions play in our workplaces and wider society. Let us know of any activities you are organising by emailing editor@pcs.org.uk.
