Further industrial action in 3 Whitehall departments
Cleaners, security guards and support staff working in 3 major Whitehall departments are to take further strike action next month in an ongoing pay dispute.
PCS members employed by the outsourced contractor ISS at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Department of Business and Trade and Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, are striking for 5 days from 9-13 October. They are taking more action after being offered a below-inflation pay rise. The company has offered just 2.2% despite high inflation and the cost-of-living crisis and despite ISS making significant profits in the last year. PCS is also calling for an end to outsourcing, job security and for the company to formally recognise the union.
This new action follows the well-supported strike at the beginning of the month, where members took action for 5 days. ISS has failed to respond to requests to make an improved offer and have yet to agree to meet with PCS.
