FM pay claim

The NEC agrees the Facilities Management pay claim, writes AGS John Moloney

The 2024 Facilities Management (FM) pay claim has now been agreed by the national executive committee, the committee responsible for running the union.

The headlines of the claim are:

  • The minimum pay rate to be £15 per hour, or an increase that matches inflation (Retail Price Index) plus 5 per cent, whichever is the greater and that staff working in London have a £5000 consolidated pay lead over staff working outside London.
  • Safe, contractual sick pay from day one for all facilities management staff
  • That the working week be reduced without loss of pay.
  • That FM companies pay for SIA Licenses and allow paid time off for SIA training.
  • That FM companies provide clear and accurate pay slips, so that employees can fully understand how their wages have been calculated and that on demand, these pay slips be provided in hard copy.
  • PCS company-wide trade union recognition for all central government contracts

The claim is the start of a process

We intend to lodge the claims soon and then of course the real work starts of trying to persuade the companies to increase wages etc. Most importantly though is talking to members – and non-members - about the claim. If they become engaged then if the claim is refused, we can talk about what actions may be needed to get members what they deserve. So the claim is the start of a process.
