Don’t leave it to the last minute to vote in our strike ballot

The PCS strike ballot runs until 13 May,  but make sure you fill in and post back your ballot paper as soon as possible and let us know that you’ve done it.

Tens of thousands of PCS members are currently voting in our strike ballot to add their voice to the calls for fair pay in 171 employers across the civil service and related areas. This is your chance to tell the government that you’re fed up with being paid less and less every year for doing the same job under increasingly difficult conditions.

Make a point of voting as soon as you get your ballot paper to ensure your voice is heard. The bigger the turnout the stronger the message will be to the employers that PCS members have had enough.

When you’ve posted back your ballot paper, log in to PCS Digital to let us know or tell your local PCS rep. This will make it easier for PCS reps and advocates to chase up votes that haven’t been cast yet in the later stages of the ballot campaign.

What’s the ballot about?

PCS has made a series of demands to more than 170 employers across the civil service and related areas. Right now, 150,000 PCS members are being balloted for strike action to support our demands for:

  • a cost-of-living rise, with an inflation-proofed increase plus pay restoration
  • pay equality across departments
  • a living wage of £15 per hour
  • London weighting provision of a minimum £5,000 per year
  • 35 days annual leave minimum
  • a significant shortening of the working week with no loss of pay.

Members who have their pay determined through negotiations with the Scottish Government are not currently being balloted as they are already in an agreed two-year pay deal.  All members will, however, contribute to the levy which will begin at the end of May.

Last year, a combination of sustained, targeted action in specific areas, combined with all out action, forced the government to more than double its initial offer and secured a £1,500 cost of living payment.  Our ability to be able to take similar action will, we believe, place considerable pressure on the UK Government to meet our demands this time.
