The 138th Durham Miners' Gala takes place on Saturday 13 July in Durham. The event marks the 40th anniversary of the 1984/85 miners' strike and the theme of this year’s Gala is ‘Solidarity Forever’. Speakers include union general secretaries Christina McAnea, Matt Wrack, Daniel Kebede and Mick Whelan. Other speakers are Ian Lavery, a former miner and president of the NUM, DMA secretary Alan Mardghum, and Heather Wood from Easington, who played a leading role in the women’s support groups throughout the strike.

The Gala is a unique and inspiring spectacle.  Every year PCS has a large presence at the event, where members and families enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere, as well as listening to inspirational speeches from key labour movement figures.

PCS is assembling at 9.30am at the Whitechurch Free House (formerly New Inn), Durham DH1 3DN, for the traditional march through the city.

PCS stall

PCS will have a gazebo with PCS-specific material for distribution. The stall will be located with the other trade union marquees. Our PCS young members' network has volunteered to staff the stall for the day. Please contact the Northern young members' convenor Saul Cahill  at saulc@pcs.org.uk to volunteer.
