Planned strikes by driving examiners called off

Planned strikes by driving examiners have been called off after PCS won significant concessions from Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency bosses.

Almost 2,000 PCS members in 270 test centres across the UK were due to take strike action for four days this week over flawed plans to clear the driving test backlog.

But following intense negotiations with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, the PCS has suspended strike action and will put the new deal to members.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said:

“This positive result – successfully negotiating improved proposals for all eight of our demands – is a huge win for our members and will hopefully pave the way to clearing the backlog in a way that's safe for our members and those taking the tests.

“This is a victory won by the strength of our members throughout the dispute to date and shows what we can achieve as a collective."
