PCS tells Cabinet Office minister: "No resolution to industrial action unless you address this year's pay crisis"

The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union has today written to Cabinet Officer Jeremy Quin to say there will be no resolution to the current industrial action unless the government addresses this year’s pay crisis.

More than 100,000 members in 123 government departments will take strike action on February 1 in a dispute over pay, pensions, redundancy terms and job security.

Jeremy Quin last week wrote to the union offering to discuss pay for 2023/24.

But PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka replied to say: “I have now met you on two separate occasions to discuss the issue of pay and I have consistently made clear that PCS stands ready to discuss all pay-related matters.

“However, I have also made clear that the cost of living crisis faced by our members, and the disgraceful levels of in-work poverty that they are suffering from, must be immediately addressed.”

He continued: “PCS is clear there will be no resolution to the current industrial dispute without the issue of pay 2022/23 being addressed.”
