PCS responds to Resolution Foundation report

Union says government should get its own house in order over low pay

As the Resolution Foundation publishes its report on Low Pay Britain, PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said:

"There’s a low pay crisis in Britain, and the government should start by getting its own house in order. One in five PCS members working in the Department of Work and Pensions is having to claim the benefits they administrate in order to top-up their low pay.

"PCS also represents thousands of security guards, cleaners and others working in government departments on or just above the minimum wage. Low pay is driving low economic growth, child poverty, and the growing housing crisis.

“We expect this new government to make tackling low pay an urgent priority and one of the ways they could take control of that is by bringing back all outsourced contracts in-house."
