PCS members in Metropolitan Police consider strike action over privatisation

PCS members working for the Metropolitan Police are considering strike action after being told their jobs are to be outsourced.

The civilian staff, who work alongside police officers in security roles and the control room based in the royal palaces, were told their employer did not oppose the move.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “Our members were devastated to hear the news, especially coming so close to Christmas.

“Privatisation tends to lead to lower wages, fewer jobs and worse working conditions, which is why we’re opposing the move.

“We are calling on this decision to be reversed. If it isn’t, we’ll consult our members on taking industrial action.”
