More than 600 civil servants to take fresh strike action at the DWP

PCS members at 13 JobCentres in Glasgow and Liverpool to walk out from May 2 to 6

Glasgow has been targeted for disruptive action because it is one of the areas piloting the DWP’s contentious scheme to force claimants to come into the office ten times over a two-week period, and Liverpool has been targeted for disruptive action because of controversial plans to close Toxteth JobCentre.

The announcement comes as PCS members this week take strike action in the Passport Office, Ofgem and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, and ahead of next week’s walk-out of 133,000 civil and public servants across 132 government departments on April 28.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “This targeted action in Glasgow and Liverpool will severely disrupt the DWP’s ill-thought-out plans.

“Ministers might have hoped our members’ anger had dissipated as our dispute has gone on, but it hasn’t, and it won’t until ministers make a meaningful offer.”

The action affects the following JobCentres: Barrhead, Castlemilk, Drumchapel, City Central, Govan, Laurieston, Newlands, Partick, Shettleston and Springburn in Glasgow, and Toxteth, Duke Street and City in Liverpool.
