How the new FAS contracts are impacting Maximus reps

Tough times ahead for the CHDA, writes Keith Robins HAAS CHDA Health Assessment rep

There have been big developments related to our company’s contract with the DWP over the past few months.

From 7 September this year the contract for work capability assessments will end and the contract that had been awarded to one provider for many years will be split between multiple providers. These providers do not all recognise trade unions.

The new contract owners are seemingly not appreciative of admin/clerical staff with many years of experience and don’t deem it necessary to pay any currently available bonuses.

They have drawn up a new national map of sites which will see areas without union representation.

Our colleagues in Prospect union are largely clinically trained but have been taking on members traditionally directed to PCS and the future looks much rosier for them.

Our current reps, which are very few, will become further isolated and I have no doubt that in just a few years we may disappear unless incoming staff wake up and smell the coffee and get organised.
