Consultative ballot to open for members on the DWP G4S contract

PCS members working for G4S in jobcentres will be asked to vote on whether they want to reject the pay offer made to GMB members.

PCS G4S members working on the DWP contract have been clear in meetings with PCS that the pay offer made to the GMB is not enough.

Although GMB have suspended their strike action, PCS members will strike for two further weeks commencing 9 and 23 September, as the dispute has not been resolved for our members.

PCS will now undertake a consultative ballot which will be run by independent balloting organisation Civica Election Services to ensure a fair and democratic test of members' opinions on the pay offer.

The ballot will run from Tuesday 17 to Friday 27 September and will be online for all G4S members that we hold an email address for. All other members will receive their ballot in the post.

The questions on the ballot will be as follows:

  • Do you reject the pay offer made by G4S?
  • Are you prepared to take further strike action in support of better pay?

PCS is recommending that members reject the pay offer and indicate that they are prepared to take further strike action by voting YES/YES.

PCS DWP group president Angela Grant said “As G4S rake in profits,  we have seen hundreds of our members left on the National Living Wage, denied a decent pay uplift. This is disgraceful treatment of our guards and I hope every single one takes this opportunity to vote in this important ballot. We need to send a clear message to G4S that PCS continues to demand an improved pay offer for workers that put their bodies on the line every day to keep DWP staff and claimants safe.”
