Victimised HMRC workers protest in Newcastle tomorrow

Union demands reinstatement of Benton Park View members

Trade unionists sacked from HMRC’s Benton Park View office are tomorrow morning protesting outside their old Newcastle workplace to get their jobs back.

Rachel Farmer, Gordon Askew and Joel Hamilton will be joined by fellow members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union outside the offices from 6.45-9am.

The three sacked workers, and three others who are facing disciplinary action, are being victimised for their trade union activities.

All three have lost their jobs in the last six months. Another rep, who was sacked previously, was reinstated after a PCS campaign.

PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “We shall not stand back and allow our reps to be victimised.

“Managers at Benton Park View have a track record of targeting reps. We won one member his job back a few years ago and intend to do the same for Rachel, Gordon and Joel.

“They are hard-working volunteers who willingly give up their time to help their co-workers. They should not be losing their jobs just because management disagrees with them fulfilling their elected roles.”
