Let us know your strike stories

9 May 2012

It is vital we get a clear picture of what is happening across all workplaces when we take national strike action on 10 May, and to do so, we want to know what's happening at your picket line.

Please let us know what's happening where you're striking by:

We will be recording all of the information on our national database, so that it can be consistently recorded and analysed and then used to assist us with future strikes. Your stories will also be added to our liveblog on the day. The address is pcs.org.uk/m10live - please save and share this quick link for the page.

First thing (before 9:30)

We would like every picket line to let us know the response to the strike:  Please let us know as early as possible but by 09:30 at the latest the following information:

  • Workplace name/code
  • Branch name / code
  • Estimate of the percentage of members who are on strike
  • Numbers on picket line

You can use a range of methods to estimate the percentages - counting the numbers who go into the workplace, or number of cars in the car park - have been used.

During the day (after 9:30)

  • Your name and where you work (your branch name and workplace)
  • Has the strike action caused your workplace to close or normal service to be disrupted?
  • Are there any celebrities or MPs on the picket line?
  • Best quote from the public in support of the strike
  • Did you work together with other unions or picket lines
  • Anything of interest. This can be anything that you think is worth mentioning about what's happening on your picket lines or events you have planned, such as: Are there families on the picket line? Have you received messages of support from the general public or other unions/organisations? Any other interesting stories?
  • Tell us about your march or rally - how many are there, who is speaking etc.
  • Email photos to 10may@pcs.org.uk so we can add them to the PCS Flickr page.
