Coastguards and transport workers lobby MPs

21 June 2012

Transport department workers - who have been involved in a series of strikes over cuts - visited Westminster this week to put their case to politicians face-to-face.

The lobby was organised by PCS activists in the Department for Transport (DfT).

About 50 union members attended, mainly from the coastguards and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) where the department is trying to push through office closures and job cuts. There were also workers from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and the Highways Agency.

Twenty-five MPs came along – 12 Labour, six Conservative, three Democratic Unionists, two Liberal Democrats, one Alliance, and one Scottish Nationalist.

Department for Transport PCS members in various workplaces have been taking rolling strike action against the cuts.
