Huhne's numbers don't check out

1 December 2011

Channel 4's Factchecker blog has described as 'fanciful' government claims that their latest public sector pensions offer will make some workers better off.

On the BBC One programme Question Time coalition minister Chris Huhne had said: “The proposals actually lead to better pensions for low and middle income earners.”

Channel 4’s researchers checked the statement using the government’s own online calculator.

Reporter Cathy Newman concluded: “The government claim that the overhaul of public sector pensions will enrich many low and middle income earners is fanciful.”

Chris Huhne was the MP who claimed a trouser press on his parliamentary expenses.
