The consultation on the future status of HM Land Registry closed on 20 March. The government is now weighing up the responses and we await an announcement. We are concerned that there is an ideological preference for privatisation and that this will outweigh common sense and the sheer volume of opposition expressed in the consultation responses.
Added to this is the publicly stated desire of the LR Board to pursue radical changes to the registration process, together with mass job losses and office closures. The failure of the Chief Land Registrar to provide any assurances, in terms of no compulsory redundancies etc, leaves us with no choice but to fight for our jobs, offices and the service we provide. This is why we must all support the strike action called for 14 and 15 May and whatever is required beyond this.
There has never been so much at stake.
