Equality underpins all of the activities of PCS. By promoting Equality we can better organise the workplace to be fairer, more equitable and maximise the involvement of under-represented groups in to the mainstream activities of our Union.
PCS Equality Reps play a key role in focussing on continuous Equality improvement. As well as raising the awareness of members to the need for a fair and fully inclusive workplace.
PCS Equality Reps will emphasise the need to follow a strictly zero-tolerance approach to Bullying & Harassment and to actively engage Branches in challenging unfair discriminatory practices, procedures or negative cultural influences that may exist in any workplace.
There are six main legislative strands to primary Equality issues. Specific PCS Equality guidance and “Toolkits” already exist for the majority of these strands.
PCS Equality Reps will be more generic in their involvement with Equality matters. They act for all members as a ready source of information, support and promotion on matters of Equality.
They ensure that workplace policy and procedure (current and future) are equality proofed and that the responsibility of the statutory Equality Duties, by Public Bodies, is being fully met.
They will ensure that the importance of Equality considerations becomes and remains incorporated in to all of the Branches activities and remains high on the Branches agenda.
