Trades Union Congress 2011

A call for unity across the union movement against government cuts dominated PCS delegates' interventions at the 2011 TUC congress, held in London 12-14 September.

Protecting pensions, defending workers' rights and opposing the cutting and sell-off of public services were among the issues we debated at the event.

Congress represents more than six million trade union members. The annual event decides the direction of the TUC’s campaigning over the coming year and is an opportunity for demonstrations of solidarity across the union movement.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “The TUC allows us to show unity with public sector workers across the union movement against government cuts. We will be urging workers to stand together

“There is an alternative to cuts. This includes: protecting and creating jobs to secure the economic recovery, taxing the banks, big business and the super-rich, with a crackdown on tax evasion and avoidance."
