PCS mobilises against the Islamophobic and fascist English Defence League (EDL), Welsh Defence League (WDL) and Scottish Defence League (SDL).
Whether you are organising a day in celebration of local communities and diversity, putting together a counter demonstration to the far right, or seeking a ban when the threat of the far right emerges, we hope you will find PCS materials on the campaigns resources page helpful.
We would urge you to publicise the events listed below to members so that the message is strong and clear - we stand united against cuts and will not tolerate hatred and fear.
Up to 2,000 members of the We are Norwich coalition marched through the city of Norwich on Saturday to oppose the EDL, which police estimate only managed to mobilise 150-200 supporters.
We Are Norwich, a coalition of 25 groups, made up of trade unions and community and faith groups, staged a counter-demonstration in which the PCS Eastern Region banner was prominent.
One of the organisers of We are Norwich is Julie Bremner, one of PCS Eastern Region’s vice chairs. She said: "Norwich showed today that it is proud to be an open and tolerant city, but we also showed that tolerance ends when it comes to racism, fascism or homophobia being paraded on our streets."
Norwich is the host of the largest Pride event in the East of England every July, which PCS Eastern is proud to support.
