A full day event celebrating the British labour and trade union movement, which, provoked by generations of struggle, has created a rich cultural heritage.

Assemble at 10:45, Smyth Street, Wakefield WF1 1ED. Look for the PCS Yorkshire and Humber banner.

March sets off at 11:30 to Wood Street, Wakefield where the main event will be held.

Bring branch banners and flags and march with the PCS Y&H banner.

The PCS samba band is one of the three bands marching.

This year there are some great exhibitions for you to visit in the Town Hall as part of the day of celebrations on 11 May.

Take some time during the day to call in and see:

  • historic banners from the NUM
  • a slide show of rare historic banners provided by Past Pixels
  • 'Backbone of the Nation - 40 years on from the miners' strike', an exhibition celebrating the lives and memories of local mining communities.

Please bring your branch banner if you have one, or your flags.

The march will start from Smyth Street, WF1 1ED. This is about 6 minutes’ walk from Wakefield Westgate railway station and 10 minutes' walk from the bus station

There is no longer car parking available at Gills Yard and Rishworth Street but there is long stay parking at:

• Trinity Walk shopping centre, Marsh Way, WF1 1QQ

• The Ridings shopping centre, Almshouse Lane, WF1 1DS

• Merchant Gate, Wakefield Westgate Station car park, 159 Mulberry Way, WF1 2QN
